“Fleshy and rich in Vitamin C”
Sweet peppers are a recent addition to the ìfamilyî of the Orto di Eleonora. We only started growing them a couple of years ago but they adapted immediately to our conditions thanks to the very rich soil and the hot climate of Sardinia, essential factors for its optimal development.
Sweet peppers are quite fleshy and their taste depends on the degree of maturity, which can be identified by the colour.
HEALTH BENEFITS
As they become riper, the peppers become green first, then yellow and finally orange or red. When this happens, it means that they are very sweet and significantly rich in vitamin C. Sweet peppers, especially red peppers, have twice the content of vitamin C of oranges. However, they only have these properties if they are eaten raw. A good alternative is to add them to salads. This vitamin is essential for the proper functioning of the immune system.
Sweet peppers are also good for pregnant women and young children as they have high folic acid content, a substance which helps the childís neural development, especially in the early stages of pregnancy. Peppers are really versatile and can be used in many dishes, they can be eaten raw, roasted or fried. Finally, thanks to their bright colours, they can make any dish look very colourful and tasty.
